Jules heeft 34 motortjes in zijn hoofd die de rubberen huid en lippen kunnen bewegen. Hiermee kan hij gezichtsuitdrukkingen en praatbewegingen van mensen kopiëren. De uitdaging voor de wetenschappers was om Jules deze uitdrukkingen en bewegingen ook goed te laten gebruiken. Dit pakten ze aan door Jules emoties te laten overnemen van videobeelden.
